In the beginning Students start by learning the first part of the Yang style traditional form. This will introduce new students to the concepts of tai chi chuan and the idea and purpose of the tai chi form. Students will progress to the rest of the traditional Yang family long form (which is in three parts) and learn the yin-yang aspects of the form leading pushing hands and sensitivity training. Moving on Tai chi chuan is a martial art and while it can, literally, take years before a student can become proficient in this aspect, our teaching methods use the martial principles as a training tool. We also demonstrate some simple self defence techniques such as getting out of grabs, getting away from an aggressor, avoiding conflict. These techniques are particularly useful for women as tai chi does not rely on physical strength.
